MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of PROJECT:COBRA is to embody and support the goals and spirit of FIRST, to equip members with real world skills and working knowledge. PROJECT:COBRA has worked since its inception to grow an appreciation for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and to give back to their community and beyond.

GROWING OUR FAMILY

It would be hard for new students to our team to be ready to make a difference unless they know how. Cactus Robotics dedicates free time out in the community educating and training our rookie members of the team.

JR. CACTUS ROBOTICS ROBO CAMP

The Cactus Robotics Robo-Camp is a crash course in STEM education hosted by PROJECT:COBRA student leaders and students to bring awareness to our feeder schools about our team opportunities at Cactus.

FALL WORKSHOPS

Our team dedicated several months in the fall after kickoff to educating our team members through a variety of interactive workshops. These workshops are led by student leaders and professional mentors. These topics range from public speaking to robot wiring.

SAFETY TRAINING

Each fall all our students and mentors get safety, first aid and CPR training so everyone knows what to do in an emergency.

PROJECT:COBRA and Cactus Robotics are a team that is deeply rooted in our school’s rich tradition of inclusion and excellence. Stemming from Cactus High School's extensive robotics program, spanning 17 years in the FIRST Robotics Competition, our growth blossomed into a new adventure into the FIRST Tech Challenge. Our school and administration’s commitment to STEM education and the robotics program has given more students than ever on our campus the opportunity to be involved with FIRST.

PROJECT:COBRA’S long-term plan is to expand and create a FIRST Tech Challenge team at each one of the elementary schools that feed into Cactus and involve as many of the staff, students, and community members in the concepts of STEM as possible. The team embarked on their journey full force this season, hosting the Glendale Qualifier event for 21 teams and involving students and staff from across our campus getting volunteers such as our school principal, student body president and student broadcasting network.

Our commitment to serving our community includes cleaning up trash on our campus and in the community, doing demos for local organizations, attending events at our feeder schools, helping with local FLL teams and creating workshops for potential members on campus. We help set up and tear down events, assemblies, and games. We are active participants in Club Rush and MyLife day on campus. Even the faculty reach out to us for assistance with projects they may have like heavy lifting or trying to trouble shoot technological problems.

PROJECT:COBRA has a bright future in FTC and is a shining star at Cactus already. Students are well known on this campus for their heart of service and their willingness to put in long hours and hard work.
